Iowa County, Wisconsin, USA

Location overview

Iowa County is in southwestern Wisconsin’s Driftless Area, with Dodgeville as its county seat. Its countryside has ridges, wooded slopes and stream valleys rather than the flatter glaciated terrain found in much of the state. Mineral Point and Dodgeville grew as centers of the region’s 19th-century lead-mining economy. Today, farms, small communities and parks occupy a landscape drained by tributaries of the Wisconsin and Pecatonica rivers.
