DysruptionHub is an independent news and research publication covering cyber incidents and technology outages that disrupt services, organizations and communities in the United States.
Our reporting focuses on the consequences that people can see and experience: unavailable systems, interrupted communications, closed offices, delayed services, manual workarounds, exposed information and the work required to restore operations.
What we cover
DysruptionHub reports on:
- Cyber incidents and technology outages affecting government, health care, education, utilities, critical infrastructure and private organizations.
- Events with documented effects on services, operations or public access.
- Restoration efforts, investigations, data breach findings and other material developments after the initial disclosure.
- Recurring patterns and connections documented through the DysruptionHub Cyber Incident Registry.
We generally focus on incidents affecting the United States. We may cover an international event when it has a material effect on U.S. organizations, services or communities.
How we report
We seek primary evidence whenever possible, including official notices, regulatory filings, court records, public meetings, government documents, direct statements and interviews.
We also use credible reporting from other news organizations. When another outlet originates information used in our coverage, we credit and link to that outlet.
Cyber incidents frequently involve incomplete or conflicting accounts. We distinguish confirmed facts from allegations, preliminary findings and unresolved questions. Claims made by ransomware groups and other threat actors are not treated as confirmation.
DysruptionHub updates its reporting as services return, investigations produce new findings or other material information becomes available. Our full sourcing, byline, corrections, artificial intelligence and visual-material policies are described in our Editorial Standards.
Who publishes DysruptionHub
DysruptionHub was founded by Joseph Topping, a writer and intelligence analyst focused on the connection between digital incidents and their physical consequences. Topping serves as publisher and writes and reports for DysruptionHub in an individual capacity. His work for the publication does not represent any employer or government agency.
DysruptionHub Staff is the publication’s institutional byline. It is used for routine briefs, recurring newsroom products and collective work for which no individual made the predominant journalistic contribution. Articles involving substantial individual reporting, analysis or writing carry the journalist’s name.
