Anaktuvuk Pass, North Slope Borough, Alaska, USA
Municipality
Location overview
Anaktuvuk Pass is a city in Alaska’s central Brooks Range, on the divide between the Anaktuvuk and John rivers. The community is home to Nunamiut, the inland Iñupiat, whose history is closely connected to caribou migration and hunting. It incorporated in 1957 after families returned to settle in the valley during the 1940s. The Simon Paneak Memorial Museum interprets the area’s natural and cultural history, and air transport connects the remote community to other Alaska settlements.
