Nuiqsut is a city in Alaska’s North Slope Borough near the Colville River Delta. The delta has long served as an Iñupiat gathering, trading, hunting and fishing area. Families from Utqiaġvik resettled the community in the 1970s, and it incorporated in 1975. Hunting, fishing and whaling remain important to local life. Air transport carries passengers and freight, and residents also have seasonal access to the Dalton Highway.
