Location overview

Windsor, Capitol Planning Region, Connecticut, USA flag

Windsor is a town in north-central Connecticut near the confluence of the Farmington and Connecticut rivers. English colonists established a trading post there in 1633, and the town took the Windsor name in 1637. Fertile river floodplains supported farming, while water power encouraged mills and other early industry. Paper and cotton mills developed in the Poquonock area along the Farmington River. Rail service and later trolley routes strengthened connections with Hartford and Springfield, and 20th-century tobacco growing and manufacturing further shaped the town.
