Clinton is a city in Hinds County within the Jackson metropolitan area. It began as Mount Salus at the junction of the Natchez Trace and Old Vicksburg Road, where springs drew early travelers. The city grew with cotton commerce and rail connections during the 19th century. Olde Towne retains a historic street grid and buildings from that era, while Mississippi College remains a prominent part of the community.
