Philadelphia, Neshoba County, Mississippi, USA flag

Philadelphia is a city in east-central Mississippi and the seat of Neshoba County, a role it has held since 1837. It sits amid rolling, pine-covered hills near the headwaters of the Pearl River. Its downtown grew around the courthouse square and includes historic commercial blocks listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1928 courthouse and square were gathering places during civil rights marches in the 1960s. The old county jail held civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner before their 1964 murders.
