Columbus is a city in southeastern Texas and the county seat of Colorado County. It lies along the Colorado River, west of Houston. River crossings helped establish the community as a stop for travelers moving between Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Settlement in the area began with Stephen F. Austin’s colonists in 1821, and Columbus was incorporated in 1837.
