Greenville is the seat of Hunt County in northeastern Texas, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. The city grew from a Blackland Prairie farming settlement into a cotton-market and railway center. Its historic downtown includes the Hunt County Courthouse, Katy Depot and former commercial and civic buildings. Majors Field, southeast of downtown, developed from a World War II airfield into a municipal airport and industrial location.
