Municipality
Location overview
Santa Fe is a city in western Galveston County in southeastern Texas, on the mainland between Houston and Galveston. It incorporated in 1978 after residents of Alta Loma and Arcadia organized to preserve local control amid proposed annexations. The city’s name reflects the school district and railroad already established in the area. Its communities developed along the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, which connected Galveston with inland Texas.
