Green River, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, USA

Green River is the seat of Sweetwater County in southwestern Wyoming. It lies along its namesake river beneath multicolored buttes. The community incorporated in 1868 and developed along western travel routes and the Union Pacific Railroad. Trona mining is an important industry in the surrounding area. The city is associated with John Wesley Powell’s river explorations and maintains a historic downtown near the railroad corridor.
