Location overview
The Lower Sioux Indian Community is a federal American Indian reservation in south-central Minnesota, primarily in Redwood County. It lies on the southern bluffs of the Minnesota River Valley, about two miles south of Morton. The surrounding valley forms part of the traditional homeland of the Mdewakanton Dakota, known as Cansa’yapi. The Lower Sioux name dates to treaties with the United States in 1851.
