Location overview

The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma is a federally recognized tribal nation headquartered in Tahlequah, in Cherokee County. This location represents the northeastern Oklahoma area associated with the tribe’s government and services; it is not a separately incorporated municipality. The tribe’s main complex stands on 76 acres of trust land in Tahlequah and includes community service buildings, a childcare center, a museum, a wellness center and an elder center. Its directory also lists a Sallisaw suboffice, while tribal reports identify offices or programs in Stilwell and other nearby communities. The tribe describes a jurisdictional area extending across all or parts of 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties, although individual programs have their own eligibility and service rules. The mapped area should not be read as the surveyed boundary of the Tahlequah trust parcel or as a determination of disputed legal jurisdiction.
