Albemarle County
Organization overview

Albemarle County’s government serves the central Virginia county surrounding Charlottesville. Its Board of Supervisors has six elected members, one from each magisterial district, who serve four-year terms staggered at two-year intervals. The board selects a chair and vice chair from among its members each year. The county executive’s department coordinates the day-to-day administration of local government. County departments include police, fire rescue and social services, whose work also intersects in the Human Services Alternative Response Team. That team responds to and follows up on emergency calls involving mental health or substance use.
