Aldo Leopold Charter School

Aldo Leopold Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in grades six through 12 in Silver City, New Mexico. Its independent governing council operates under a charter contract with the New Mexico Public Education Commission. The school combines classroom instruction with experiential learning, including outdoor education, extended field trips and projects that connect academic subjects with community life. High school students participate in internships and Youth Conservation Corps activities, and dual enrollment provides access to Western New Mexico University courses. Enrollment uses a lottery when applications exceed available places, providing an alternative public education option for local families.
