East Central University

East Central University is a public regional university in Ada, Oklahoma, offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. It serves students through campus instruction and fully online programs, extending access beyond its physical campus in south-central Oklahoma. The institution opened in 1909 as East Central State Normal School to prepare teachers for the region. Its academic role expanded to include liberal arts and sciences and graduate education, building on that original teacher-training mission. Following several changes in institutional status and name, it became East Central University in 1985; the university also uses the abbreviation ECU.
