Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin

Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin is a nonprofit, member-owned health care and insurance cooperative based in Madison, Wisconsin. It serves members in south-central Wisconsin, combining health-plan coverage with the delivery of clinical care. Community members incorporated the cooperative in 1972 as a prepaid group practice, and it began seeing patients in 1976. Its model developed around preventive care, health education and member participation in decisions about health care. Members elect the board of directors and can participate in the annual membership meeting. The cooperative reinvests year-end surplus funds in the organization.
