South Carolina Department of Education

The South Carolina Department of Education is the state agency that supports public schools, districts, teachers and students across South Carolina. Led by the state superintendent, it administers statewide education programs and provides guidance on curriculum, college and career readiness, district operations and student services. Its divisions oversee school transportation, facilities, health and nutrition support, grants and other functions that local districts rely on. The agency distributes and monitors state and federal education funds and works with the State Board of Education on policy. Its headquarters in West Columbia coordinates this work for school communities throughout the state.
