The Town of Groton is the municipal government for a community in northwestern Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Groton includes the main village, West Groton and a broad landscape of neighborhoods, farms, forests and conservation land along the Nashua River and its tributaries. The town is known for historic architecture, independent schools and access to regional employment centers in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Incorporated in 1655, Groton became an early inland settlement and later a local agricultural and educational center. Its preserved village areas and extensive open space remain defining features of the community.
