The University of Pennsylvania is a private research university based in Philadelphia, with its principal campus in the city’s western section. Founded in 1740, it comprises four undergraduate schools and 12 graduate and professional schools, spanning fields from arts and sciences to medicine, business and engineering. Penn reports 29,384 students enrolled in fall 2025 across undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.
