False AI-assisted intelligence prompts aborted U.S. military boarding operation

CNN reported that an AI-assisted intelligence report wrongly identified a Chinese vessel's cargo as nuclear-program components during spring 2026. U.S. personnel prepared to board and military aircraft were airborne before officials discovered the error and stopped the operation. The report drew on intelligence originating with U.S. Special Operations Command Pacific. The chatbot, vessels, exact date and any malicious involvement were not identified.
