Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, USA

The Kenai Peninsula Borough spans much of south-central Alaska, including the Kenai Peninsula, communities along Cook Inlet and a large area across the inlet. Its varied landscape encompasses the Kenai Mountains, Harding Icefield, fjords, forests, wetlands and salmon-rich rivers, with Kenai, Soldotna, Homer and Seward among its best-known communities. The region is part of the ancestral homeland of Dena’ina and Sugpiaq peoples and later became a center of Russian trade, fishing and settlement. The borough had about 62,000 residents in 2025. Commercial fishing, oil and gas, tourism, health care, construction and small-scale agriculture shape its present-day economy.
