San Luis Obispo County lies along California’s Central Coast between Monterey and Santa Barbara counties. It was established in 1850 as one of California’s original 27 counties. Its landscape extends from the Pacific shoreline to inland mountains, with Caliente Mountain its highest point. A chain of volcanic peaks known as the Nine Sisters runs between Morro Bay and the city of San Luis Obispo.
