Wright County, Minnesota, USA

County or equivalent

Location overview

Wright County lies in east-central Minnesota between the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, with Buffalo serving as the county seat. Glacial lakes, the Mississippi and Crow rivers, farmland and remnants of the Big Woods give the county a varied landscape across its roughly 700 square miles. Organized in 1855, it was named for New York politician Silas Wright and grew through river travel, lumbering, farming and later railroad connections. Wright County had about 157,600 residents in 2025. Agriculture and manufacturing remain visible, while construction, logistics, health care, retail and commuting ties to the Minneapolis-St. Paul region shape its fast-growing communities.
