Lee County is a county in northeastern Mississippi, with Tupelo as its county seat. The area was an important center of Chickasaw life before the tribe’s forced removal. The county was formed after the Civil War and named for Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Tupelo later became nationally known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley.
