Location overview
Darlington County lies in northeastern South Carolina within the Pee Dee region. Darlington is the county seat, while Hartsville, Lamar, Society Hill and smaller communities are surrounded by farmland, pine forest and river lowlands. The Great Pee Dee and Lynches rivers help define a landscape long associated with cotton, tobacco and other agriculture. The area was organized as a judicial district in 1785 and later became a county. Manufacturing, agriculture, health care, education, motorsports and regional commerce contribute to its modern economy.
