Darlington is a city in northeastern South Carolina and the county seat of Darlington County. Its compact center developed around the courthouse and regional trade routes within the Pee Dee’s agricultural landscape. The community grew during the 19th century as cotton, tobacco, railroads and local commerce connected surrounding farms with wider markets. Nearby Darlington Raceway brought national attention to the area after opening in 1950.
