Location overview
Blanco County lies west of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. Johnson City is the county seat. Limestone hills and oak-juniper vegetation characterize its position along the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau. The Pedernales River drains much of the county, while the Blanco River carries water from its southern portion toward the Guadalupe River.
