Location overview
Manteca is a city in San Joaquin County, south of Stockton in California’s Central Valley. The community developed around farming and a railroad station on Joshua Cowell’s land. It incorporated in 1918, with Cowell serving as its first mayor. Irrigation, canning, sugar processing and dairy production shaped its early growth. Later development added residential neighborhoods and employment connections with the Bay Area.
