Aurora is a home-rule city on the eastern edge of the Denver metropolitan area in Colorado. Its municipal territory extends across Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties. Founded as Fletcher in 1891, the community adopted the name Aurora in 1907. Prairie grasslands and rolling hills shape its setting, with the northern tip of the Black Forest reaching into the city. Aurora has broad views of Colorado’s Front Range and a mix of established urban neighborhoods and newer planned communities.
