Location overview
Elsmere is a town in New Castle County, Delaware, immediately west of Wilmington. It grew around railway connections, workshops and routes used by workers traveling to the city. The town incorporated in 1909 as residential development expanded beyond Wilmington. Kirkwood Highway forms an important commercial corridor through the community. Neighborhoods north and south of that corridor include housing built during the town’s early growth and the decades after World War II.
