Location overview

Middletown is a town in southern New Castle County, Delaware. It grew around a crossroads on the route between landings on the Appoquinimink Creek and Bohemia River. Its position midway along that route gave the settlement its name. Railroad service arrived in 1855 and helped make the surrounding agricultural district an important shipping area. Middletown incorporated in 1861, and its historic center remains focused on the Main Street and Broad Street crossroads.
