Location overview

Orlando is a city and the seat of Orange County in central Florida. It anchors the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metropolitan area, which includes Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties. The community developed from a settlement known as Jernigan before adopting the Orlando name in the mid-19th century. It incorporated as a town in 1875 and adopted its city charter in 1885. Rail connections helped citrus become an important early industry, while tourism and later growth in technology and life sciences reshaped the regional economy.
