Sweetwater is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Its development began with the Sweetwater Groves subdivision during the land boom of the 1920s. The 1926 hurricane and the collapse of the property market interrupted that venture, before lot sales resumed under a new owner in 1938. Residents voted to incorporate in 1941. Nearby university construction and expressway development helped drive rapid growth during the 1970s.
