Location overview

Douglas is a city in southern Georgia and the seat of Coffee County. Established as the county seat in 1855, it grew with the arrival of railroads near the end of the 19th century. The Georgia and Florida Railway established its offices there in 1909, reinforcing its role as a regional commercial center. Agriculture shaped the local economy, including a prominent tobacco market in the 1920s and 1930s. Its historic downtown, Gaskin Avenue neighborhood and World War II pilot-training air base preserve different chapters of the city’s development.
