Stuart is a city spanning the Guthrie and Adair county line in west-central Iowa. It began as the Quaker settlement of Summit Grove and grew after the Rock Island Railroad established a division station and shops there. The city’s railroad past remains a distinguishing part of its local history. Interstate 80 now passes near Stuart, linking it with Des Moines to the east and western Iowa to the west. Its small-town commercial area sits amid the agricultural landscape of the two counties.
