Waukegan Township, Lake County, Illinois
Municipality
Location overview
Waukegan Township is a civil township in eastern Lake County, Illinois, and is geographically distinct from the city of Waukegan. Its boundaries include parts of Waukegan, Beach Park, Park City and North Chicago, creating an urban township rather than a single municipality. Organized in 1849, it was among the early townships established as the Lake Michigan port settlement then known as Little Fort expanded. The area lies within the heavily developed lakeshore corridor, with residential neighborhoods, commercial districts and older industrial land connected by rail and major roads. Its modern identity remains closely tied to Waukegan and the broader Chicago-Milwaukee region.
