Waukegan Township
Organization overview
Waukegan Township is a unit of local government in Lake County, Illinois, serving more than 100,000 residents in and around the cities of Waukegan, North Chicago and Park City. Established in 1849, it was among the first townships organized in Illinois and took its name from Waukegan, then a growing Lake Michigan port community. The township is governed by an elected supervisor, board of trustees and other township officials. Its programs include general assistance, senior transportation and services, youth and family programs, employment support, transitional housing and property assessment. Waukegan Township operates separately from the City of Waukegan and provides services across a broader geographic area.
