Madawaska is a community in Aroostook County, Maine, set within Maine’s forested interior, river valleys and rugged Atlantic margin. Madawaska lies on the Saint John River opposite Edmundston, New Brunswick, in the heart of northern Maine’s Acadian region. Much of its historic form emerged as Wabanaki history, lumbering, farming, fishing and border trade shaped settlement, with later suburban and commercial growth adding new layers.
