Hastings is a city in west-central Michigan and the seat of Barry County. The Thornapple River runs beside a compact downtown surrounded by neighborhoods, parks, farms and wooded lake country. Platted in the 1830s, the community grew as a market and industrial center for the surrounding countryside. Nineteenth-century commercial buildings and the county courthouse contribute to its historic character. Manufacturing, health care, agriculture, retail and regional services support the city today.
