Columbus is a city and the county seat of Stillwater County in south-central Montana. It sits on the north bank of the Yellowstone River near the mouth of the Stillwater River, about 40 miles west of Billings. Interstate 90 and a railroad connect the community with the Yellowstone Valley, while local roads lead toward the Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains. The city is a local commercial and government center and a gateway for fishing and other outdoor recreation.
