Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey, USA flag

Trenton is New Jersey’s capital and the seat of Mercer County, on the eastern bank of the Delaware River. It became the state capital in 1790, and the State House remains a center of New Jersey government. The city was the site of the December 1776 Battle of Trenton, when George Washington’s army defeated Hessian troops. Pottery and wire-rope mills helped shape Trenton’s growth as an industrial city during the 19th century.
