Aztec is a city and the seat of San Juan County in northwestern New Mexico. It lies in the San Juan Basin along the Animas River, south of the Colorado border. Farmington is about 15 miles to the west. The city uses a commission-manager form of government, with five commissioners and a mayor selected from among them.
