Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, USA
Municipality
Location overview

Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico, set at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the state’s north-central region. Spanish colonists founded the city in 1610 on a landscape with a much longer Pueblo history. It served as a capital under Spanish, Mexican and U.S. territorial governments before New Mexico became a state in 1912. The historic Plaza and surrounding architecture reflect these overlapping cultural traditions. Galleries, museums, performing arts and annual art markets are prominent parts of the city’s cultural life.
