Chittenango is a village in Madison County, New York, within the town of Sullivan. It lies about 15 miles east of Syracuse. The community’s history is closely associated with the Erie Canal, and Chittenango Landing preserves a restored canal dry dock. The village is the birthplace of author L. Frank Baum and holds an annual festival celebrating his work.
