Russell Township, Geauga County, Ohio, USA
Municipality
Location overview

Russell Township is a semirural community in Geauga County, Ohio, about 20 miles east of Cleveland. Wooded hills, large residential lots and preserved green space give it a landscape distinct from the denser suburbs to the west. The area was called West Woods before being named for the Russell family, who settled there in 1818. Wildlife preserves, trails and open land remain prominent local features. Its location on the edge of the Cleveland region has brought development pressure while residents have sought to retain the township’s rural character.
