Tulsa stands along the Arkansas River in northeastern Oklahoma, where wooded hills meet the southern edge of the Great Plains. The city is known for Art Deco architecture, a strong music tradition, riverfront parks and distinct districts including downtown and historic Greenwood. Tulsa grew from a Muscogee settlement into an oil capital in the early 20th century, while the 1921 massacre in Greenwood remains a defining chapter of its history. The city had about 416,200 residents in 2025. Energy, aerospace, manufacturing, health care, finance, technology, logistics, tourism and the arts support its modern economy.
