Tulsa stands along the Arkansas River in northeastern Oklahoma, where wooded hills meet the southern edge of the Great Plains. The city is known for Art Deco architecture, a strong music tradition, riverfront parks and distinct districts including downtown and historic Greenwood. Tulsa grew from a Muscogee settlement into an oil capital in the early 20th century, while the 1921 massacre in Greenwood remains a defining chapter of its history.
