Seneca is a city in Oconee County near Lake Keowee and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It developed in the nineteenth century at the intersection of the Blue Ridge Railroad and the Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line Railway. Seneca had an estimated population of 9,202 in 2024. The city serves as a commercial and health-care center for the Lake Keowee region, with access to nearby lakes, mountain recreation and Clemson University. Retail, health services, manufacturing, utilities, tourism and construction contribute to the local economy.
