Alexandria is a small town in northwestern DeKalb County in the rolling hills of Middle Tennessee. Established in 1820, the community serves a rural area positioned between the larger employment centers of Nashville, Lebanon and Cookeville. Alexandria had an estimated population of 944 in 2024. Agriculture and small businesses remain important locally, while manufacturing and distribution facilities elsewhere in DeKalb County provide additional employment. Center Hill Lake and the county’s forests, waterways and annual cultural events support recreation and tourism across the surrounding region.
