Columbia is the county seat of Maury County and a regional center in Middle Tennessee, less than 40 miles south of Nashville. The Duck River runs beside its historic downtown and Riverwalk, linking the city to one of Tennessee’s most ecologically diverse waterways. Columbia’s courthouse square, James K. Polk ancestral home and annual Mule Day celebration reflect its agricultural, presidential and mule-trading heritage. Columbia had an estimated population of 50,072 in 2025, about 20.3% above the 2020 estimates base. Automotive and other manufacturing, health care, finance, retail, construction and agriculture-linked businesses support its expanding economy.
